Every year Nielsen creates an overview of the changes in the grocery world. In our Nielsen Grocery Universe 2015 report, you'll find the evolution of a number of retailers, the share of store types, as well as regional and international comparisions (comparing the results till the end of 2014).
In Belgium, the most important conclusions from our research are:
- There were 7203 grocery stores in Belgium at the end of 2014, a decrease of 86 stores compared with 2013.
- The turnover of the Grocery Universe rose to EUR 25 billion in 2014--an increase of 2% from the year before
- Hard discounters and F2 (medium-sized supermarkets) increased their market shares.
- F2 owns a market share of 28.8% (+0.8pt versus 2013), and hard discounters claim 16.1% of the market (+0.6pt).
