No one likes to be sick, but it’s something that everyone has to deal with from time to time. Unfortunately, the frequency of certain ailments is on the rise, such as common colds and headaches. At the same time, consumers are becoming more inclined to battle their ailments themselves, seeking over-the-counter (OTC) remedies and medicines rather than checking in with their doctors and caregivers.
This report takes a closer look at these ailments and the common man’s reaction and approach towards them. The study focuses on 36 common ailments/conditions/symptoms suffered by urban Indians, and highlights key trends in consumer behavior such as self-medication through OTC drugs and the impact of the increasing doctors’ consultation fees.
Given this, it’s important for pharmaceutical marketers to understand the end-users of their products – those who have already taken the OTC route for their products as well as those who are contemplating a prescription-to-OTC shift.
