New York and Los Angeles –April 3, 2008- Billboard, the world’s most trusted source of music, video and digital entertainment news, charts, reviews and analysis, today announced the launch of Billboard en Español, a Spanish-language website, poised to become the destination for Spanish speaking music fans around the world. With the brand integrity and authoritative voice of Billboardas its core foundation, Billboard en Español will feature a potent, constantly refreshed content mix of music feature stories, news and exclusives, trend profiles, reviews, blogs and video and music streams of Latin artists, as well as music across genres, that appeal directly to the Spanish speaking music fan.
“Billboard en Español was born out of the unparallel access, artist relations, exclusivity and knowledge of the Latin music community that we fostered and cultivated at Billboard over the years,” said Leila Cobo, Billboard’s Executive Director of Latin Content and Programming. “It’s a natural progression of our brand and will be the single most important asset and resource for Spanish speaking music fans.”
With a network of correspondents in the United States, Latin America, and Spain and a separate staff headed by Cobo and Billboard En Español’s Managing Editor, Judy Cantor-Navas, the digital publication is able to provide an international perspective.
"Billboard en Español will offer in-depth coverage of Latin music while recognizing that the tastes of music fans who speak Spanish are not limited to a single genre, or to exclusively Spanish-language music. Billboard en Español covers all of the music that matters to our users," said Cantor-Navas.
Billboard en Español will also integrate up-to-the-minute music and entertainment news from EFE and Reuters, as well as content adapted and translated from sister sites billboard.com and billboard.biz. In addition, every Thursday, Billboard’s famous sales, airplay, download and box office charts will be posted on Billboard en Español, which will also offer unprecedented access to Billboard charts in every Latin genre.
Billboard en Español’s exclusive content will include regular features like “Playback,” which spotlights the music of both award winners and artists to watch with playlists and exclusive streaming tracks and “Rockola Digital,” which covers the world of digital music and social networking, with a special emphasis on U.S. Latino and Latin American news. Billboard en Español will also feature original, streamed video content of artist interviews, shows and acoustic performances, as well as access to Latin music stars in “Estudio Billboard,” encompassing video from the acclaimed “V-Me” show hosted by Cobo. Moreover, with customized widgets, users can obtain Billboard en Español’s news feed or chart data in an easy to grab format to run on a blog, website or desktop, and share the digital publication’s content with friends.
Just as with Billboard.com, the sister site BillboardenEspanol.com will have complete coverage of weekly releases and the hottest singles on radio and Web. However, unique to Billboard En Español are features such as “En Vivo,” reviews that takes users to live shows and festivals with contributions from correspondents on the Latin beat throughout the hemisphere. “Batido,” Billboard en Español’s blog, is a multimedia, multi-genre compilation of opinionated observations, news and gossip about music from all over.
Billboard en Español is launching with promotional support from MySpace Latino and Cyloop, a social networking music community. Advertising support will be a cross pollination of clients between the sister digital publications Billboard.com and BillboardenEspañol.com. Billboard En Español will be headquartered in New York City.
