QINGDAO – July 15, 2014 – Nielsen, a leading global provider of information and insights into what consumers watch and buy, announced today the opening of a new office in Qingdao. It is another strategic decision made by Nielsen, since the opening of the first China office in 1984, to demonstrate its commitment to the Chinese market and its clients.

With enterprises like Haier, Hisense, Tsingtao Beer, Double Star and AUCMA booming in recent years, Qingdao represents the developed coastal cities in China, continuously driving not only the economy of Shandong province, but also Bohai Rim in a broader sense.

Additionally, the higher GDP growth in Qingdao and Shandong Province, combined with the increasing per capita disposable income of local consumers, has built a solid foundation for local markets to continuously upgrade in the years to come.

Nielsen, with 90 years’ history in delivering in-depth consumer insights, chose to set up a new office in Qingdao to honor the commitment to enhance the cooperation and communication with local clients. The opening of the Qingdao office shows again Nielsen’s deeper understanding and confidence in the Chinese market.

“Qingdao, with a flourishing economy and various enterprises, is a leading runner of the Shandong Peninsula. Fast-developing E-commerce no longer means a supplement to traditional sales, but a source which generates innovative business models, and changes the behaviors of Chinese consumers,” said Patrick Dodd.  “In this regard, Nielsen is able to provide clients from various industries with comprehensive research and solutions to meet their growing needs for a better understanding of today’s changing consumers,” Dodd added.

“We attach great importance to the Chinese market and will continue to invest considerable resources to develop our service network here. Qingdao, also known as “the city of brands”, is significant to Nielsen in China,” said Yan Xuan, President of Nielsen Greater China. “Recently, with the rapid growth Qingdao’s economy, the city has accumulated a diverse group of large enterprises including global, state-owned and private companies. Opening a branch here will help us seize more opportunities and provide better service, as well as make a contribution to the local economy and society,” said Yan Xuan.

“Following the opening, Nielsen expects to bring more efficient and comprehensive services and consumer insights to existing and future clients, as well as promote the development of consumption market in Shandong province. Meanwhile, Nielsen will bring global consumer insights to local enterprises, helping them make an impact on the global stage,” Yan Xuan said.
