We’re proud to be celebrating Nielsen’s 25th anniversary in Romania. Over the last two and a half decades, Nielsen Romania has grown from a small team of just six associates auditing 90 stores in Bucharest to having 210 permanent members of staff, covering all fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) business in the country.
For more than 90 years, Nielsen has provided to the world data and analytics based on scientific rigor and innovation, continually developing new ways to answer the most important questions facing the media, advertising, retail and FMCG industries. Throughout this time, we’ve expanded to serve more than 100 countries around the world, covering 90% of the global population.
Our data and research has been crucial to businesses in Romania, as the retail environment in the country has transformed dramatically in the last few decades. At the beginning of this century, the country only had around 70 modern format FMCG stores. That number climbed to 450 in 2008 and has since boomed to more than 2600 by mid-2018. In addition to the growing modern retail landscape, there are currently more than 70 thousand traditional trade outlets that have also seen a tremendous change in numbers, formats and products assortment.
“During the last decades, Nielsen has grown to become the benchmark of Romania’s local FMCG industry measurement, building its brand on professionalism and integrity and being a trusted partner for both manufacturers and retailers,” said Luca DeNard, Market Leader of Nielsen Romania since 2016.
Both international and local companies, as well as retailers and manufacturers, doing business in Romania know and use the Nielsen “Retail Measurement System” as one of their main decision platforms. In addition, our quarterly “Consumer Confidence Index” and “Shopper Trends” research provide key insights into new trends among Romanian and international shoppers.
“With 25 years of Nielsen in Romania, we are not getting older—we are getting wiser!” says DeNard. “Technology transforms the way we live and do business. At Nielsen, we align with the new trends at a speeding pace and are excited to continuously develop the most advanced tools to help our clients sail safely through the winds of change.”
The future looks promising for Nielsen in Romania. As the market further develops, the demand for high-quality market measurement solutions and the need for innovative products and services will continue to grow. For the next 25 years and beyond, Nielsen will drive to honor the past, embrace the present and reach for the future.
