The Director, Product Management will be a leader with a track record of success in introducing new products through Launch/Maximize. A classically trained product manager, this person will be one-part execution, one-part operations and one-part innovation.  As the “CEO” of their product set s(he) will own the product roadmap and strategy and take accountability for its success. As a leader who achieves success via influence, this person will have the capability to manage up, down and across a matrixed organization to drive results. A natural coach and mentor, the product leader will balance being a subject matter expert and visionary with day to day leadership of a product team.

The Director, Product Management will be able to effectively communicate with Nielsen’s key leaders and stakeholders and speak with high profile clients and companies daily.  This person must be adept in speaking the language of business and technology and helping others to translate requirements.  Communicating effectively with expertise in acting as a “bridge” between internal groups such as Sales, Marketing,  Operations, Engineering and Data Science will be critical.

This is a complex, leadership role in a quickly transforming business and marketplace. Change management skills will be critical to success. This person will have owned a product roadmap and understand how Product Management can build and produce true value for the company.  The product leader will be able to straddle the challenge of marrying Nielsen Sports’ legacy business with the “new world” transformation and methods of measuring and analyzing critical data.


The Position:
The Director, Product Management will be responsible for new product introduction, including our Social Valuation.  This person will build a product roadmap and strategy that aligns with the market needs and broader Nielsen datasets. The Director and their team will drive deeper cross-platform comparability between TV, Social and extend media valuation to emerging platforms. S(he) will guide and accelerate adoption of our syndicated Sponsorship platform in the US and Globally.

This position will own the product roadmap and take personal accountability for executing against our Operating Plan and P&L for their key products. S(he) will develop and manage towards metrics that track performance. The Director will regularly review the competitive landscape and user feedback to improve product features and discover M&A opportunities. This person will conduct user research and collaborate with our commercial leadership to ensure Nielsen’s strategy remains relevant and oriented for growth. The product leader will serve as an evangelist to the external marketplace and be an active contributor to the community through participating in conferences, speaking engagements etc.
The Director, Product Management will lead a small team of product owners responsible for building, managing, and designing the new product offerings. S(he) will be responsible for coaching and guiding the team through a continued journey of transformation in an agile environment. The product leader will evangelize agile product development practices across our product, technology, and operations teams while leading by example. S(he) will collaborate cross functionally with engineers, data scientists, vendors, product marketing, operations and business development to plan, develop, and deliver the innovative products that will take Nielsen into the next generation of our business and lead us to becoming and “product first” company.

  • Ability to bring simplicity and structure to ambiguous problems with multiple external and internal stakeholders
  • Knowledge of how advanced analytics, AI and Machine Learning are impacting media products 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred, but not required:

  • Experience in the video or sports entertainment industry
  • Experience in marketing / sponsorship / media industry preferred, including domain expertise in any of the following areas:
  • Audience measurement and Targeting (e.g. reach and frequency measurement, audience segmentation, programmatic activation, viewability measurement and fraud detection)
  • Digital / Cross-Platform advertising and activation (e.g. orchestrating digital ad buys, executing digital / cross-platform campaigns, digital ad operations)
  • Marketing effectiveness measurement (e.g. attribution measurement, marketing mix modeling, sales lift measurement)
  • Strategic and tactical media planning (e.g. budget allocation, building cross platform or channel-specific media plans)
