Lead Data Scientist – 75501

What is the role?

Data Science is core to what Nielsen does, and our research projects have high visibility in directly affecting the results of our business and our clients.  The Lead Data Scientist is responsible for supporting research and data engineering needs of the Nielsen Media Data Science organization.

 

What will I do?

  • Leads prototyping (what –ifs) as well as supporting pilot programs for R&D purposes.  The primary areas include – but are not limited to – data integration, automation, generalization, harmonization as well as working with different data sources.
  • Creates, maintains, and supports data pipelines across diverse systems (Azure/AWS,, Oracle, Mainframe)
  • Delivers all analyses to support KPI definition/ implementation, standards and best practices.
  • Conducts analyses to support Methods programs.  
  • Ensures documentation of the new methodologies and best practices.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and test new consumer and audience measurement methodologies.   
  • Provide research support for the identification and implementation of methods and best practices to optimize data collection approaches.  
  • Represents Nielsen within academic and research councils.

 

 Is this for me? (E=Essential, P=preferred.)

  • E- 3+ years of experience in market research.
  • E- Bachelors degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Social Science (e.g. Psychology, Sociology, Political Science) , Operation Research, or other hard sciences (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Physics etc.) with outstanding analytical expertise and strong technical leadership skills.
  • E- Familiar with data pipelines, data aggregation techniques, automation, generalization.
  • E- Proficient in Python or other general purpose programming languages, or other statistical/data processing packages.
  • E- Proficient in the PyData stack or other machine learning, statistics, and data processing packages
  • E- Familiar with working in Unix-based  and cloud environments.
  • E- Expert in SQL and working relational database management systems (RDBMS)
  • P- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Social Science, Operation Research, or other hard sciences (e.g. Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Physics etc.).
  • P- Knowledge in noSQL databases
  • P- Demonstrates experience in Nielsen methodologies, data collection, platforms, research processes and operations.
  • P- Domain expert in at least one area: Demography, Sampling, Statistics Modeling, Research Practices, Data Integration and/or Digital.

Who am I working with?

The Digital & Advanced TV team within the Data Science Global Media organization focuses on improving and enhancing Nielsen’s highly successful products out in the marketplace for digital & TV advertising and content measurement. As part of this exciting team, this position will focus on developing new methodologies and data optimization and correction techniques to measure digital audience across platforms in order to enhance or expand the data delivered to clients.
