Mobile Architect and Technical Lead (iOS and Android) – 100784

Nielsen is seeking a strong and experienced mobile lead engineer and architect. This position requires 10+ years of experience developing and delivering mobile apps on the Android and iOS platforms. The position also requires a deep, broad and solid background on mobile technologies, APIs, services, features, packages and frameworks that these two platforms (Android and iOS) are offering to developers. 

This role will act as the technical product owner for Nielsen’s Mobile development team for a variety of apps used for mobile digital measurement. This position will take high level requirements from various Business stakeholders, break them into technical user epics and stories and lead the development scrum teams towards implementation. At the same time, this position will provide technical guidance and direction to mobile developers and testers. The successful candidate will have the responsibility, in collaboration with technical leads from other teams and business owners, to architect systems and APIs involving mobile apps and backend servers for Nielsen’s major, strategic initiatives. Finally, the successful candidate will have the responsibility to deliver quality products and deploy them across different world markets, using and employing best practices including unit test, test automation, CI/CD.   

 

Responsibilities:

  • Technical product owner for mobile development
  • Drive mobile architecture in Android and iOS platforms as well as mobile systems in general
  • Drive alignment between different meters and measurement technologies
  • Work with the business and clients to understand their needs and how to deliver solutions to meet these needs
  • Drive mobile development best practices 
  • Set technology roadmap for the Product
  • Drive R&D and innovation to achieve new measurement methodologies
  • Stay on top of industry trends and changes
  • Write user stories and maintain the backlogs

Qualifications:

  • Should be an experienced, mobile technology leader with minimum 10 years’ of experience in designing, implementing and delivering solutions for Android and iOS devices.
  • Experience in technical leadership for a diverse team of developers both locally and internationally
  • Proven record of mobile app development in both iOS and Android
  • Proven record with iPadOS (knowledge of MacOS is a value add)
  • Proven record with Cross Platforms (ReactNative / ReactJS)
  • Strong knowledge on Mobile Architectures and Design Patterns
  • Strong knowledge of AWS cloud services
  • Strong knowledge on Firebase or equivalent third party libraries
  • Strong knowledge on mobile data security
  • Strong Java knowledge
  • Strong C/C++ knowledge and Android NDK
  • Strong Objective-C and Swift knowledge
  • Experience with IoT integration (BLE / MQTT) is preferred
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of networking communication protocols especially HTTP/S. Any background on UDP, TCP, QUIC is a plus
  • Good knowledge on Android memory management and Android app permissions
  • Strong Knowledge of the VPN service and APIs offered by the Android and iOS systems. Any additional Proxy protocol knowledge is a plus
  • Strong record on mobile performance optimization
  • Understanding of IPv4/IPv6 addressing and networking differences
  • Knowledge of Continuous integration using Jenkins/gradle
  • Work with Agile/Scrum, Git, Jira, Confluence
  • Should have proven ability to direct, mentor and provide technical leadership, lead systems designs and platform architectures
  • Should be able to assess existing systems and design a strategy to make them high performing and efficient
  • Should be able to work across multiple platforms and domains
  • Should have the ability to work independently and be a self-starter. Direction and support will be provided by the manager, but the candidate is expected to be a proactive leader and put forth his/her own ideas
  • Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills
  • Make independent sound decisions and possess the ability to take responsibility for specific projects or definable portions of larger projects
  • Leadership skills: commitment to excellence, accepting responsibility for results, and making quality decisions
  • Flexible to attempt alternate solutions to resolve issues and adjust to a dynamic, changing technical and business environment
