This Senior Data Scientist position in the Data Integrity & Intelligence team will have the opportunity to contribute to a brand-new initiative that will apply modeling, machine learning, and anomaly detection to Nielsen’s Audience Measurement solutions. This is an ideal position to grow as a machine learning engineer and researcher, developing subject-matter expertise in audience measurement. Within the Media Data Science organization, the team’s mandate is to ensure Nielsen’s broad client base have the utmost confidence in Nielsen’s published data across our television, digital, and audio products. This role will be responsible for creating new methodologies, productionalizing those methodologies, and communicating directly with senior leadership and clients. 


What will I do?

  • Apply machine learning, anomaly detection, and forecasting models directly to Nielsen’s big data and panel assets

  • Independently write custom Python and SQL code

  • Work directly with senior leadership to define the highest value modeling opportunities

  • Liaise directly with Nielsen’s client base to ensure that solutions are directly applicable to their business

  • Build intuitive, client-facing and internal data visualizations 

  • Key tasks include – but are not limited to – identifying modeling opportunities, producing client-facing data visualizations, and model productionalization. 

  • Work closely with a small team of dedicated data scientists to rapidly prototype modeling solutions. 


Is this for me?


  • Bachelor’s degree in degree in Statistics, Social Science, Operation Research, Mathematics, or Computer Science with outstanding analytical expertise 

  • 2 to 3 years of experience with many of the following: machine learning, anomaly detection, forecasting, python programming, data manipulation, trend or pattern recognition, or statistics 

  • Must be proficient with Python, Spark, or Scala to develop sharable software with the appropriate technical documentation

  • Must be proficient in SQL and large-scale databases.

  • Must have ability to manipulate, analyze, interpret large data sources, and tell a story from data through analyses. Experience with Tableau preferred. 

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Must have ability to work alone and with a team

  • Must have critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate results in order to make decisions

  • Must demonstrate intellectual curiosity and persistence to find answers

  • Demonstrate interest in Nielsen methodologies, data collection, platforms, research processes and operations

Skills Desired:


  • Experience with machine learning techniques

  • Experience working with cloud based or big data technologies (e.g. Databricks, Airflow)

  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Spotfire)
