Senior Manager, Media Analytics – 78421

Analytics – Japan Tokyo, Tokyo 

Nielsen Sports Japan is seeking a highly motivated Senior Manager to lead our Media Analytics team. The ideal candidate is an individual who is highly proactive, has experience in a high-volume transaction environment, excellent written and oral communication skills, experience undertaking complex media analysis projects, works well in multi-discipline teams. The ideal candidate also must have passion for sports and aspiration to be a professional in the sports marketing industry. This role directly reports to the Head of Analytics for the UK & Asia.



The role requires to oversee the media evaluation delivery process including:

  • Standardization 
    • Lead process standardization and alignment to the best practice of processes and data within the Media Analytics Function (Project Delivery Cycle) aligned with the standard process in the global direction
    • Approve-reject TO BE (target) standard business processes and data model in alignment with the global standard process, the complexity of transformation, company’s culture, as well as the environment, legal & compliance requirements
    • Ensure that the standardization initiatives harmonize with other Business Functions
    • Act as custodian of target business processes, responsible to consider, review and approve subsequent updates and confirm correct deployment; ultimately accountable for the outcome of standardization and business practices rollout globally
  • Automation  
    • Identify areas of improvement and automate to increase efficiency and productivity 
    • Implement automated data quality check and data manipulation process to increase efficiency and reduce human errors
  • Data Quality Control and Delivery 
    • Oversee all project deadlines and deliverables
    • Forecast operational resource requirements with upcoming projects in the sales pipeline to incorporate supply and demand management 
    • Improve process of overall project performance to increase the delivery process and make sure all project deliverables meet projects deadline
    • Improve process of quality check and analyze the root cause of data quality issues and identify steps to fix issues 
    • Resolve all internal data exceptions in a timely and accurate manner to incorporate risk management skill 
    • Make recommendations to operational support for enhancements to systems of record to improve the accuracy of operation data
  • Cost Management
    • Forecast yearly & monthly budget to plan and allocate resources accordingly includes; operation units in global office, 3rd party vendor purchase, employee hours to meet OP target
    • Approve-reject TO BE (target) standard business processes to ensure profit margin / operational costing of each project
    • Work local and global finance function to monitor quarterly result 
    • Communicate regularly with the business process experts across regions and with senior leadership regarding operational updates and associated financial benefits
  • People Management 
    • Manage a team of 8 full-time employees
    • Create individual goal and KPIs and demonstrate strong leadership to support individual to achieve their goals 
    • Encourage and support employees career development and review performance
    • Support change management activities aimed at the deployment of target business processes and technology to related business function
    • Build the industry knowledge across the team and introduce best practices to increase team capabilities
    • Liaise and be the key point of contact with the Client Services (commercial) team, ensuring that all client requirements are taken into account in the set up of projects



  • At least 3 years of team management (managing 3 members or more) and project management experience
  • Stakeholder management/capacity planning experience advantageous
  • Knowledge and experience in working Media Industry (Sports knowledge favourable) 
  • Experience in a Media, Broadcast, Ad-tech, TV or video-specific industry (digital and linear media buying/selling, and TV marketplace and standards). Marketing, PR, Commercial, Ad operations experience is a plus
  • Able to work across multiple projects and help define priorities, and scope for themselves and others; and identify gaps in planning, process, or product, and effectively drive solutions forward
  • Resourceful systems thinker, with strong organization and process skills and experience that includes having established standard methodology and practices, e.g. stakeholder and risk management
  • Strong negotiation skills in both Japanese and English
  • Experience in big data analysis and Intermediate to high Excel proficiency (e.g. "index", "match", "sumif" function) also favourable
  • Strength in informing and influencing decisions optimized across multiple perspectives. Can work through ambiguity by identifying, and qualifying options then building consensus. 
  • Native level Japanese, business level English (reading, writing, speaking)
