Nielsen Audio Norway report 2019-2020

2 minute read | March 2020

Nielsen marks 1 year’s delivery of the official radio numbers with a report describing Norwegians’ radio listening in the period 2019 up to and including January 2020.

It is claimed that sound and audio media are entering a new golden age. Few industries have developed faster in the last few years than just audio, both in terms of content, distribution and listening equipment. The competition for the ear’s attention is fierce, and it is being discussed whether the entry of the power services will be at the expense of radio. For who wants to listen to the radio when we can stream our own playlist or podcast?

Nielsen’s audio survey shows that as many as 86% of Norwegians (3.960 million people 10+) listen to radio during an average week. This also includes young people, albeit with a somewhat lower degree of listening than the elderly. As many as 49% of young people between the ages of 10 and 29 hear daily. Typically, they listen in the morning, perhaps with the rest of the family, before the herd goes their separate ways for the day’s chores.

Norway Radio Weekly Netto Coverage

The report includes information on daily and weekly coverage, breakdown by age groups, listening patterns throughout the day, listening by place of residence, market shares, as well as advertising statistics for radio and other media channels.

From 1 January 2020, listening in a car was included in the Norwegian audio measurement. The report also contains insights from the first month with this supplement.
