Nielsen bolsters shopper marketing credentials with acquisition of Nexium

London – 26 Feb 2014 – Nielsen Holdings N.V. (NYSE: NLSN), a leading global provider of information and insights into what consumers watch and buy, today announced that it has successfully completed its acquisition of Nexium, a leader in retail in-store execution and sales analytics.

Nielsen has acquired all Nexium assets including data, advanced analytic IP and tools and ongoing client work across 39 countries. Nexium, which is headquartered in Madrid with offices in Mexico and Brazil, has 150 employees and will join Nielsen, effective immediately.

“Client needs have evolved,” said Nielsen chief buy officer Arturo Garcia Castro. “They now require an increased focus on measurement at store level, and global sales activation. Nexium is a natural fit with Nielsen’s portfolio of solutions in shopper marketing, assortment and space optimization, trade promotion and retail execution tracking. This will allow our clients to make more informed and impactful business decisions.”

This agreement strengthens Nielsen’s ability to deliver outcomes for clients in two important areas. First, next-generation in-store execution measurement allows manufacturers’ sales teams to audit retailers’ shelves using image recognition through a smartphone app. It will help sales teams quickly uncover and resolve any merchandising issues to ensure the proper execution of in-store initiatives to deliver expected sales performance.

Second, richer analytics & integration will deliver very robust insights into assortment and space optimization, particularly in automated planogram generation and space-aware assortment optimization.
