As a buyer, identifying new tastes and trends is key. Two recent Nielsen studies show that in the wine industry, some unlikely characters are appearing on more and more tables. In snooty wine circles, some may look down on Pinot Grigio, but according to Nielsen, the wine has see a double digit rise. An article in the Chicago Tribune talks about how this brand of grape is gathering credibility.
Similarly boxed wine, also looked down upon almost as much as wine with a twist-off cap(!), is gaining acceptance as higher quality varieties are getting boxed up. Nielsen points out that in 2007 alone, sales of boxed wines rose 50%. Newsweek takes a look at some brands of boxed wine that are emerging from the shadows and into more and more homes.
