August 2012 Top U.S. Web Brands and Technology News Websites
More consumers than ever had Internet access: an estimated 278 million Americans during August 2012, the most recorded by Nielsen in the US. Among them, about 215 million Americans were active online in August 2012, spending nearly 29 hours on average browsing the Web.
During August, Google remained the top Web brand by total audience in the U.S., with about 176 million unique visitors, followed by Facebook.com, with 158 million visitors. Compared to a year ago, the Top 10 Web Brands list remained the same except for the addition of Ask Search Network.

Consumers turn online for Computer & Consumer Electronics News
As technology companies announce their latest gadgets ahead of the holiday shopping season, eager consumers turned to a variety of news sites and blogs to keep up with the happenings. More than one in four online Americans visited Computer/Consumer Electronics News sites in August 2012, totaling over 60 million unique visitors to sites in this category during the month.
NetShelter Technology Media’s network of consumer electronics sites (which includes RedOrbit, MacRumors, Slashgear, Fixya and more) topped the list with a total of 21 million unique US visitors in August. CNET was the second ranked brand with more than 19 million uniques to their sites during August, followed by popular sites like Mashable, Lifehacker and Wired.
