Job Description

Nielsen is seeking an experienced, full time Global Compliance Associate General Counsel to join its well-regarded Law Department. This newly created role, reporting to the General Counsel & SVP of Global Employment, Integrity and Compliance, will have a wide range of responsibilities, including proactively driving the corporate ethics and compliance program and supporting its strategic initiatives, as well as mitigating risks related to employment law compliance. This high-profile role will provide ongoing legal counseling to senior management and other business team members.

 Responsibilities:

  • Serve as compliance counsel and trusted advisor to the company, Global HR organization, Legal Team and managers on compliance and integrity issues, including compliance with the FCPA, the UK Bribery Act, and other applicable anti-corruption laws;

  • Conduct, and/or work with internal regional or outside counsel and service providers in conducting privileged investigations of Integrity issues, including employee relations, anti-corruption, and protection of confidential information and company assets; 

  • Support the corporate ethics and compliance program, including strategic & training initiatives and policy review, implementation and development;

  • Manage the Compliance & Integrity program to comply with SEC, DOJ, and global best practices standards for an “effective” compliance program, including:  annual risk assessment, targeted training based on evaluated risk, third party due diligence, design, implement, and manage policies and procedures to promote compliance with legal and ethical standards, and promoting a culture of compliance throughout the organization;

  • Serve as primary legal counsel on sanctions and export compliance matters;

  • Work with cross functional stakeholders to ensure that the company’s compliance program is appropriately operationalized;

  • Co-manage the company hotline including receiving, updating, and resolving reports;

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to develop, implement, and continually improve internal controls, including investigating and resolving identified compliance issues;

  • Create and co-conduct training on a variety of compliance and anti-corruption topics;

  • Help the organization achieve and maintain compliance with relevant global, federal, state & local laws and regulations as well as company policies.

The right candidate will have experience or willingness to learn and handle: 

  • US, Canadian and/or EU employment laws to enable counselling on employee life-cycle issues, including recruitment and hiring, compensation and benefits, accommodation requests & leaves of absence, etc; 

  • Labor, employment, and compliance-related litigation & mediation, including US agency proceedings from inception to resolution; 

  • Updates on newly released guidance and evolving best practices standards; and

  • Other matters, with employment law underpinnings, as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • JD degree from a top, American Bar Association accredited law school;

  • Admitted in good standing to practice law in at least one state in the US, Canada and/or EU;

  • Relevant experience in the US, EU, UK or other jurisdictions;

  • At least 6 years of experience in-house or at a law firm, with a combination of in-house and law firm experience strongly preferred;

  • Must have experience counselling clients on ethics & compliance; experience in counselling on employment matters preferred;

  • Should have experience creating and conducting training modules and formulating policies;

  • Strong interpersonal and excellent written and verbal communication skills; at ease  working in diverse / multicultural environments, and possess a global mindset;

  • Excellent project management skills, with demonstrated ability to oversee complex projects and lead to successful completion in an organized, efficient, and effective manner in a virtual environment;

  • Resourceful and adaptable to dynamic, fast-changing environment;

  • Strong working knowledge of a wide range of legal and compliance topics, including dispute resolution and risk management; and

  • Acts in a proactive, efficient and effective risk-based and benefit-driven way. 

Most candidates can work remotely up to 95% of time.  Travel, post-Covid, would be primarily in N. America, including New York and Chicago, less than 10% of time.
