Nielsen is looking for an enthusiastic client engagement specialist to provide comprehensive analytic support to a Fortune 500 retailer. If you desire to advance your expertise in merchandising analytics specifically market share, consumer/shopper behavior, product assortment, price positioning, and promotional strategy, this is your opportunity to serve as a trusted advisor using world-class data assets and delivering value in the rapidly changing landscape of retail. 

Working under the guidance of the Merchandising Team Lead, this analyst will contribute to overall client satisfaction, team success, and adoption of business intelligence platforms for various workstreams. A strong candidate will understand the benefits of actionable insights, problem solving, in-depth category acumen, and have a willingness to ensure deliverables are met with utmost quality. Nielsen prides itself on delivering innovative data solutions to its retailers. 


  • Manage designated retail categories supporting multiple aspects of merchandising operations including product assortment, price positioning, promotional strategy, sales and market share evaluation, and consumer/shopper analytics

  • Contribute to building client strategy and frameworks; ensuring adoption of KPIs

  • Lead regular client meetings with other account team members and to gather information, provide solutions for client challenges

  • Conduct required research and analysis to identify trends and patterns in data, gleaning insights aligned to client business issues

  • Review data for scope adherence, outlining errors and inconsistencies

  • Develop client deliverables by building presentations with insights and recommendations, formulating findings into a story telling manner

  • Leverage various business intelligence platforms, including client and Nielsen content, to deliver integrated insights and analyses

  • Assist development teams by outlining business requirements for future reporting/dashboard creations

  • Actively identify opportunities for efficiencies, automation, standardization and ways to simplify processes

  • Participate in knowledge sharing across the internal professional services organization.

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Marketing, or Computer Information Systems

  • 2-4 years of experience in category management, retailer merchandising, syndicated data analytics, shopper/consumer analytics or marketing 

  • Experience with Business Intelligence Software (SQL, Tableau, Power BI, Qlik). Ability to query databases using SQL is required. 

  • Preferred: 1-2 years of CPG, vendor or retailer corporation experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and/or Google (Sheets, Slides, and Docs).

  • Preferred 1-2 years of experience with a consumer-packaged goods manufacturer, vendor or retailer corporation 

  • Self-starter with ability to manage priorities and deliver against client objectives within established timelines

  • Logical thinking and problem solving focusing on a high level of detail

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to thrive in a team environment
