We’re thrilled to announce that Progressive Grocer has named Karen Fichuk, president, Lead Markets, Nielsen, as a Top Woman in Grocery in its “Senior Level Executives” category! The award recognizes the most impressive women in the industry who go the extra mile to surpass expectations in their positions, whether by stepping up to take on extra responsibility, overhauling an entire department to make it run more smoothly or devising a program that addresses business challenges and client needs.

Progressive Grocer’s Women in Grocery Awards—now in their 10th year—have grown to become one of the most credible platforms for women’s leadership recognition within the retail food industry. The awards bring to light the integral leadership role that women play across all segments of the retail food industry in North America.

Fichuk recently became the first woman to serve as president of Nielsen’s Lead Markets. In addition to being a role model for women across the company, she is responsible for the management, business performance and strategic direction of Nielsen’s consumer packaged goods manufacturer and retailer business across strategic markets in North America, Western Europe and Asia Pacific, as well as media business in these markets outside of the U.S. In addition, she oversees the success of critical business operations, including finance, legal, product development and execution, marketing and communications and human resources, while also maintaining client relationships and strategic alliances.

Fichuk was selected alongside other women industry leaders from the International Dairy-Deli-Bakery Association, Kellogg Co., The Kroger Co., Meijer, Nestlé USA, PepsiCo/Frito-Lay and many others.

This year’s winners have been featured in a special report on Progressive Grocer, a Stagnito + Edgell publication, and will be honored at an award ceremony in Orlando, Fla., on Nov. 11, 2016.
