Statement on Data Recently Provided to the Wall Street Journal

1 minute read | December 2011

December 4 – New York, NY: Nielsen provided the Wall Street Journal data for a November 29th story on TV viewership among kids aged 2-11 for the season to date. In calculating a year-over-year comparison, Nielsen used 2010 data that was correct as reported. Due to a reporting change made in February of 2011, we did not apply a standard adjustment for year-over-year comparisons. Based on this recalculation of adjusted data, 2011 TV viewing by kids 2-11 season to date declined 2.9% vs. 2010, not the reported increase of 1.7% which we provided to WSJ for their November 29th story. No underlying data or ratings were affected by this recalculation. We regret this incident and have notified the Wall Street Journal of the adjusted analysis.
