This is a Summary Privacy Statement of the European Union-based Nielsen group companies. Learn more about Nielsen’s group of companies.

This Summary Statement concerns Nielsen’s processing of personal data when we market our business to other businesses, institutions, and government agencies within the Euroepan Economic Area. The following is a general statement of our practices; however, Nielsen complies with all local laws applicable to email marketing.

Additionally, Nielsen products and services may be subject to their own statements specific to the product or service and such statement will apply to the applicable privacy or service. We encourage you to review such privacy statements before providing any data.

Personal Data Processed

Marketing: Nielsen does not provide services directly to the general public, but rather sells services to other companies, institutions and government agencies. Accordingly, the personal data we use to market our services relates to employees of client and prospective client entities. This personal data includes contact information such as email address, name, address, telephone number; information about Nielsen’s relationship with employees and clients; publicly available information; and information we learn from letters, emails, phone calls, and other correspondence.

We may obtain personal data directly from individuals, from company directories, third party sources that have a relationship with an individual, the internet and social networking sites, or from other publicly-available sources.

Marketing and Other Communications

Nielsen processes personal data for the following purposes:

  • We process personal data to send marketing-related communications to individuals in key roles at current or prospective clients who we believe may be interested in Nielsen’s services, or individuals who have requested them. This processing is (i) necessary for the purpose of Nielsen’s legitimate interests (except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject) in accordance with Article 6 (1) lit. f, GDPR (primarily our legitimate interest in growing and operating our business and maintaining relationships with clients); or (ii) consent of the individual in accordance with Article 6 (1) lit. a, GDPR (for example, where an individual has agreed to receive our marketing materials such as electronic newsletters, or applicable law requires us to seek consent to send marketing materials); and
  • We process personal data such as the fact communications were opened to (i) understand how our communications are used, and (ii) what content is accessed, to make them more intuitive and improve our communications. For example, our communications to our business contacts may include pixel tags, web beacons, and/or HTML-formatted email messages that track and report back to Nielsen the actions recipients take in response to our emails (e.g., whether a message has been opened, read or deleted). This processing is necessary for purposes of Neislen’s legitimate interests (except where such interests are overridden by the interests or fundamental rights of the individual) in accordance with Article 6 (1) lit. f, GDPR (primarily our legitimate interests in operating our business, maintaining relationships with Clients, and improving our communications to make them more relevant and intuitive).

If you do not wish to receive marketing emails from Nielsen, you can click on the “unsubscribe” link available in each such email message or contact us to ask to review, correct, update, suppress, or otherwise limit the use of contact information about you. Please note that if you do opt out of receiving marketing-related messages from us, we may still send you important administrative messages as part of your ongoing use of our products and/or services.

Additional Information: Personal Data processed is transferred to or remotely accessed from non-EEA countries with different, and less protective data protection laws (including the United States of America), but where the latter is the case Nielsen has put in place Standard Contractual Clauses as a safeguard or relies on the US recipient’s Privacy Shield certification. You have the right to request access to personal data about you, to ask us to rectify or erase personal data, or to exercise any of the other data protection rights available to you (such as the right to object to direct marketing or where we process personal data based on our legitimate interests). You also have the right to complain to the relevant supervisory authority, in particular the supervisory authority of the member state of your residence or the location where the issue that is the subject of the complaint occurred.
