- FAST currently comprises 6.8% of total TV consumption, an increase of over 400% over the last four Septembers, per Nielsen.
NEW YORK – November 24, 2025 – Nielsen, a global leader in audience measurement, data and analytics, and Lionsgate, one of the world’s leading standalone, pure play content companies, today announced an expansion of their free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) channel measurement deal to include a first-of-its-kind measurement of Lionsgate’s Worldwide Television Distribution Group and Debmar-Mercury’s recently launched digital network, MovieSphere Gold, which is available in more than 30 million homes. Lionsgate will now be the first company to have both a major FAST channel and digital network measured by Nielsen.
Beginning next month, Nielsen will measure viewing across nearly 130 local TV markets by aggregating MovieSphere’s FAST audience with MovieSphere Gold’s over-the-air (OTA) local affiliate viewership. This will give critical market intelligence to better understand its audiences, strategically partner with affiliates, and accelerate the channel’s expansion and viewership.
“Nielsen’s new measurement capability will give us a comprehensive view of our audience across traditional and OTA local affiliates via more than 170 stations nationwide for the first time, giving us a major competitive advantage and fueling the growth of MovieSphere Gold,” said Derek Turk, SVP of Ratings & Research, Lionsgate.
“Our leading streaming technology makes us uniquely capable of providing FAST channel measurement for companies like Lionsgate that are strategically expanding their offerings across different channels. As more viewers are embracing ad-supported streaming, we’re proud to provide the industry with the data and insights they need to understand and expand their audiences,” said Amilcar Perez, Chief Revenue Officer at Nielsen.
This announcement builds upon Nielsen’s momentum in leading the industry in audience measurement, including streaming. Nielsen continues to be the premier source of streaming TV measurement, releasing The Gauge, the Media Distributor Gauge, The Ad-Supported Gauge and the Nielsen Streaming Top 10. In a typical month, Nielsen measures more than 1 trillion minutes of viewing across all streaming apps.
