Marvel’s Spider-Man: A franchise that reaches every generation

3 minute read | August 2026

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has shattered box office records, achieving the biggest domestic opening weekend in history with $360 million in the U.S. and racing past $1 billion globally in record time. Following its record-breaking release, Nielsen untangled the web of Spider-Man viewing across America’s screens. From animation to a new live-action noir, the numbers tell one story: everyone is watching.

The Big Reveal

Across TV and streaming, America’s most-watched Spider-Man is animated

In the wake of the historic launch of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Nielsen streaming viewing data identifies Miles Morales as the most-viewed Spider-Man in America. When summing the total minutes viewed for every film featuring the hero under the mask, the animated Spider-Man of the Spider-Verse films, voiced by Shameik Moore, has reached the largest audience. Remarkably, Miles Morales has achieved this top ranking with just two movies to his name.

This lead in viewership may be attributed to the animated format. Animation often fosters higher rewatchability, particularly among children, who are more likely to watch the same films repeatedly compared to live-action audiences.

On a per-film basis the gap widens further: Miles averages over 6 billion minutes per movie, roughly double any live-action Spider-Man. A hero created in the comics in 2011 now leads a franchise born in 1962.

The Ranking

Top 10 most-watched Spider-Man films across TV and streaming

Every era earns its place. All four Spider-Men land at least two films in the top 10, a reach across generations few franchises can claim. And viewing is climbing: Into the Spider-Verse logged nearly 2 billion minutes in the first half of 2026 alone, as the film reached wide streaming availability in a big year for the franchise.

Animated series like Spidey and His Amazing Friends often generate higher total viewing minutes because they feature a significantly higher volume of episodes compared to films, providing more content for younger audiences to rewatch frequently.

From Disney Jr. mornings to a noir for grown-ups, from 2002’s original to the record-shattering success of the 2026 opening, Spider-Man belongs to every generation. With the neighborhood’s latest hit reaching $1 billion in record time, the web only continues to grow.
