Nielsen Recognized at Inaugural Advancing Diversity Honors During CES 2018

2 minute read | January 2018

At this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Nielsen was named a corporate inductee at the first annual Advancing Diversity Hall of Honors, acknowledging our efforts to accelerate diversity and inclusiveness. Advancing Diversity, managed by Jack Myers’ KnowledgeExchange and MediaVillage brands, was designed to honor corporations and individuals who have not only studied diversity and inclusion, but implemented successful initiatives in the media industry that directly address gender and cultural diversity as well as people with disabilities and veterans.

Our Diverse Leadership Network (DLN) was specifically recognized for its ability to successfully connect the dots between diversity and inclusion and growth, as well as to retain and develop stellar talent in a business unit or organization. Created in 2013 and likened to a mini-MBA, DLN is a 15-month program open to mid-career top performers from diverse backgrounds. Associates are partnered with executive coaches to learn more about Nielsen, complete an online curriculum on core subjects such as financial acumen and use case studies to solve business issues.

At the event, Nielsen’s Chief Diversity Officer, Angela Talton, shared remarks on the genesis, core mission and stellar outcomes of the program in a Ted Talk-style presentation for the ballroom of media and technology executives.

“As you are looking for talent for your organization, sometimes you need to look no further than your own backyard,” she said. “With DLN, we shifted the traditional talent acquisition model to look at untapped, top performers already in the organization and created a wholistic initiative that would give these associates the right mix of visibility, access and opportunity for growth, and the results have been outstanding. We have seen 73% of graduates move into a new position—either through promotion or lateral moves—and we’ve seen more than 50% move into a second new position.”

Karla Chrzanowski, Executive Director of AdvancingDiversity.org, said, “We’re proud to lead the charge and showcase the media, marketing and advertising industry’s leadership in advancing diversity to the tech community. We were excited to share the valuable knowledge our presenters and honorees have gained developing and implementing strong diversity initiatives.”

Other Hall of Fame inductees included organizations and leaders across a range of industries, including advertising, media and fast-moving consumer goods.
