Giving back to local communities is an essential part of our culture at Nielsen. Through our global volunteer program, Nielsen Cares, our associates mobilize Nielsen’s data and expertise for good, creating shared value in our communities and helping to solve some of the world’s biggest social challenges. Inspired by their time at Nielsen, many of our employees continue to make impactful contributions to their communities even after leaving the company.
We recently caught up with three Nielsen alumni to learn how their Nielsen experience influenced their personal development as leaders in the social impact space.
Max Brawer (N ‘12-’16) is co-founder of PASSNYC, which aims to identify talented underserved students within New York City’s underperforming school districts in order to increase the diversity of students taking the Specialized High School Admissions Test. He also works full-time in People Analytics at Buzzfeed. During Max’s tenure at Nielsen, he won Lead of the Year for his work with our Asian American employee resource group, AAL (Asian Affinity Link).
Diane Driscoll (N ‘07-’15) is Head of Communications for Mary’s Meals USA, an organization that provides a daily meal in a place of education in order to attract chronically hungry children into a classroom, where they receive an education that can, in the future, be their ladder out of poverty. During her time at Nielsen, Diane remembered how leaders always encouraged volunteering and allowed her to take time for community service days.
Monique East (N ‘10-’17) is currently Program Director for the New York University (NYU) College Advising Corps, where she combines her passion for college access and her experience in professional development, project management and relationship management. During her time at Nielsen, Monique led community engagement efforts for our Black employee resource group, SABLE (Sustaining Active Black Leadership & Empowerment), as well as our Hispanic employee resource group, HOLA (Hispanic Organization of Leaders In Action).
We had the opportunity to reconnect with Max, Diane and Monique thanks to the Nielsen Alumni Network, which brings together thousands of former associates around the world, many of whom serve as pioneers in their fields and leaders in community impact. Through the Network, alumni can make meaningful connections, acquire key industry knowledge, discover exciting career opportunities, and even participate alongside current associates in our annual employee volunteerism event, Nielsen Global Impact Day.
